It is a great privilege to lead The Dearne ALC, a wonderfully inspiring school that stands up for its beliefs and delivers ambitious opportunities for young people and adults alike. In short, a great place to be.
I genuinely love my job and spend my days working with great students and their families; working alongside tremendous professional adults who are committed to the moral purpose underpinning our vocation; working collaboratively with ambitious and forward thinking leaders who aspire and drive to deliver a high quality education for the young people we serve; working with a highly effective group of governors who challenge and support the school to move forward and leading a learning community that cares about the future lives of our young people and works hard to deliver accelerating levels of success.
I could talk about our huge strides in exam successes over the last few years; I could talk about our rapid improvements in a wide range of descriptors such as attendance; I could talk about the huge positive changes in behaviour and attitudes to learning; I could talk about the way the school has transformed itself into a highly focused ambitious learning centre. I could, because all of those things are true. However, that does not really give you the full picture of the real Dearne!
The Dearne ALC is a vibrant, happy place where people smile, laugh and enjoy what they do. It is important to all of us that we develop strong positive working relationships, especially in the classroom developing success in our students, so that everyone can work together to excel. We do work hard – we expect to work hard -and a strong work ethic underpins our ambitions for our young people.
Make no mistake, as a school we face our fair share of challenges. The majority of our young people come from backgrounds classed as ‘disadvantaged’ and we ensure for them that issues that may be labelled as ‘barriers’ do not turn into ‘limits’. I am proud of the way adults at The Dearne commit to our students’ success and go the extra mile and even further! That is just the way it is at The Dearne!
You cannot fully appreciate what a great place The Dearne is from a website so I make you an open invitation to come and visit us. One of our student leaders will be happy to meet you and either me or one of my staff, or if you prefer some of my student leaders, will take you on a tour! Just let us know and there will be a warm welcome waiting for you and an opportunity to visit an ambitious school really going places.
If you cannot find what you are looking for on the website, just use the contact information and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
WIth kindest regards
